What You Eat Is What You Get

Gourmet eating in a fast-food world

In November 2008, I went to a luncheon. This is, in of itself, not that interesting or relevant, but that’s how this all got started.

Someone at my table took a picture of her meal and started talking about how whenever she’s served something that looks especially good, she takes a picture of it. As it happens, whenever I cook something that tastes or looks good, I take pictures of it, too. I have a silly little blog about my silly little life, but uploading photos onto it is kind of a pain in the ass, so this seems like a good place to document the photos of things I cook.

I also subscribed to a community share for the first time in 2008, which has required me to cook more because I get a giant bag of random fruits and vegetables on the regular. I’m a pretty decent cook, and I figured this will be a good outlet for me to document the successes (and failures!) from my kitchen. I’m sure I’ll also discuss food-related items in the media, as long as dreck like this continues to be printed.

Finally, I love food and cooking, but I’m a fast-talking career gal with a dog who needs to be walked each night, so I need to make things that are tasty, healthy and fast. So even though I loathe Sandra Lee, there is an element of semi-homemadeness to my meals. I buy rotisserie chicken and use it in salads or soups; I sometimes supplement things I’m making with store-bought sauces. I take the shortcuts, and I’m not apologizing for it.
